Caelan punched the dumpster with all his strength, screaming "Idiot!" The metal screamed in protest and the whole thing flew back. He whirled, kicking the smaller trash can behind him. It flew into the small lake and Caelan watched as it splashed, the calm waters rippiling and rising. He looked around for something to hit, but he was alone. So he gripped the top of his head and fell to his knees, screaming in frustration. The last hours were a blur, but he remebered every excruciating-and exhilarating- detail. He cursed himself for enjoying the taste o her blood on his lips, the electric current that coarsed through his body, warming his toes to his head. If Renn hadn't pulled her away, she'd be dead in his arms.

They stood, the sunlight glaring down on Vakyries pale shoulders, tanning them. She covered them with her hands, not wanting to explain a tan to her parents in the middle of winter. Skulduggery strolled foward, and they walked into Gordons house. It had been a while since she talked to her dead uncle. The last time she had it was to show Skulduggery. Skulduggery leaned against the wall,"You go on. Tell Gordon we need to know if its possible to have Nye take the remnant out of Tanith." Valkyrie nodded, sprinting up the steps. She tugged the book that led to the secret study, and turned to see her uncle Gordon appear in front of her. She smiled warmly,"Hello Gordon." He glared,"You haven't talked to me in ages" Valkyrie shrugged apologetically, "Sorry about that. Ive been a mite busy." Gordon smiled,"Saving the world?" Valkyrie "How about a person?"

Valkyrie Cain
They walked into the bright white room quickly, and saw Skulduggery, Erskine, and Ghastly circled around a body in a chair. Kenspeckle was away from the commotion, his face pinched in annoyance. He glanced over at the couple as they walked in, and gave Valkyrie a silent wink. She forced a smile on her face, but the second he looked away it vanished. Sanguine grinned at her as she walked up, and settled in between Erskine and Skulduggery. "How ya' doin' lil' darlin'?" He said, his white teeth flashing. She scowled at him and he laughed,"I've been missin' that scowl." Skulduggery cut in,"Why were you at the Sanctuary?" When he didn't reply, Skulduggery continued,"Tell me." Sanguine hummed a tune and said,"Shan't." Skulduggery tilted his head, his hat in danger of falling off,"Did Tanith put you up to this?" At the sound of her name, Ghastly stiffened. Valkyries heart plummeted. They hadn't told him that Tanith had become Sanguines girlfriend. Sanguine laughed,"Maybe. Us lovebirds have been busy. Devious plots and such." Ghastly looked like someone slapped him. Skulduggery frowned,"You do realize your "girlfriend" has been a man. 3 times." Valkyrie hollowed out her cheeks to keep from laughing at the look that flashed over Sanguines face. Then Sanguine shrugged,"Well, she's a girl now." Erskine glared at him,"You should be in a cell. For murder, attempted murder, assault, breaking and entering, and a number of things."
Sanguines expression was deadpan,"I do believe I have made a prank phone call. Don't forget that." Fletcher rolled his eyes. Valkyrie spoke,"So, what devious plots are you planning?" Sanguine lolled his head towards Valkyrie and grinned,"You can't expect me to reveal all my secrets, sweetheart, now can you? Ill just tell you one thing. Those days of relaxation I told you about? You better have enjoyed them, because they're long gone." Valkyrie snorted. "They've been gone for a long time." Erskine spoke again, his voice bitter,"Where's Tanith?" Sanguine grinned up at him, "Behind you." Erskine wheeled around, to see no one there. He turned back, and Sanguine was roaring with laughter. Valkyrie glared at him, her heart rising back to where it belonged. Skulduggery made a sound similar to clearing his throat. "Until you tell us, your staying here." Sanguine took a deep breath, and started to sing "99 bottles of wine". Valkyrie shook her head. The group started to walk back into the main room, but Ghastly hesitated. Valkyrie looked over her shoulder and stopped walking. "Ghastly?" His head snapped up, like he was waking from a trance, and he nodded. He came over to her and walked over. They left, and something popped up in Valkyries head. "Wheres Blaine?" Erskine froze, then hung his head. "Damn."
He pulled out his phone and dialed a number, and they watched in silence as he spoke to the voice on the other line. "Where are you?"
"Dammit, Blaine!"
He paused, his face growing redder and redder. Then he spoke,"Fine. Fine. Just come back now, or Ill be in trouble." The other end was silent, then Erskine snapped,"No! I will not." He snapped the phone shut and looked up to see 4 people staring at him. He shook his head,"You don't want to know." Skulduggery nodded,"Right, well, Valkyrie and I have business to do." Fletcher looked at her,"Business?" Valkyrie shrugged, and squeezed his hand as a good bye. She followed Skulduggery into the sleek black rented car. As she buckled her seat belt, she spoke,"Where are we going?" Skulduggery spoke, his voice full of bitterness,"Nye."

"I'm sorry for what I said, Valkyrie. I didn't mean it." Valkyrie turned away and shrugged. Then Erskine Ravel poked his head through the door, his face flushed with anger and his hair ruffled in a fashion that would hint at being attacked by a vacuum. He spoke,"What would you like me to do with Sanguine, or do you want him to just leave." Kenspeckle barely graced him with a glance,"Of course not, idiot. Ill take care of him." And with that, Kenspeckle shuffled out the door, leaving Valkyrie and Skulduggery alone. Valkyrie didn't meet Skulduggery's eyes as she swung her legs over the bed. They were stiff and sore in many places, and she had a slight limp in the left one. She shrugged on her coat, and then Skulduggery spoke. "I'm going to the Interrogation room." He looked at her questionably and she nodded,"I need to talk to Fletcher first. Ill meet you."
Skulduggery walked out, and she took a deep breath and peeked her head through the door. She saw Caelan, pressed against the wall, looking like he was trying to bore a hole through the back of Fletchers spiky head. He saw Valkyrie and met her eyes, and she tried to tell him telepathically that she wasn't mad, but he needed to leave. He nodded, and disappeared into the night, probably somewhere far away. Fletcher, on the other hand had his arms crossed over his chest, glaring at the floor. Valkyrie cleared her throat, and he didn't even look up. She felt a large lump in her throat, and it burned. She forced herself to sallow it down, and when she could trust herself to speak, she uttered out one single word. "Fletcher." Fletcher turned towards her slowly and a muscle in his jaw jumped. Valkyrie opened her mouth, but Fletcher cut her off. His eyes softened, and in them she could see all the hurt he had been hiding from everyone. "I didn't believe him. I didn't believe that you kissed him. So when you called me, and didn't deny it, you killed me. And then I saw you with him tonight, and I wanted to vomit. You already had gotten over me." Valkyrie shook her head sharply, and before she could explain, he cut her off again,"I know. We could all hear you yelling." Valkyrie looked distressed,"Im sorry, Fletcher. But I don't like Caelan. I like you. I always have. It just happened so fast." Fletcher hesitated, and then he nodded, and though she could still see the hurt in his eyes, she knew he forgave her. She smiled tentatively and he returned it with his own. And he kissed her quickly and softly on the lips. Valkyrie stood,"Interrogation room." And as they walked down the hallway, all felt well.
But the thing that clouded Valkyries mind, was the fact that what she said to Fetcher... It was a lie.

Valkyrie Cain
Valkyries eyelids fluttered, and the first thing she saw was Kenspeckle, looking grumpy and exasperated. He glared at her, and she shrank back. "How much trouble am I in now?" She squeaked, her voice raspy from yelling. Kenspeckle raised his eyebrows,"I am not mad at you, more like baffled on why you went to a dark alley, with a murderous Vampire, by yourself." Valkyrie sighed,"He's not murderous, Kenspeckle. But do you recall the last time Cealan told me he had to show me something important?" Kenspeckle glared some more,"Don't give me that, Valkyrie."
She sighed and tried to move her head away, but it was so stiff it could barely adjust. "So Im cured?"
He growled harmlessly. "Of course your cured. What have I always told you?,"He said
She grinned,"Your a genius?" Kenspeckle softened, and smiled back,"And your cured." He hesitated,"I called Clarabelle the other day."
Valkyrie stiffened,"And...?," Kenspeckle looked grave,"She wouldn't believe me. I told her to come to the Hibernian." Valkyrie looked doleful,"Im sorry. It was our fault, we shouldn't have let her come back to see-" But Kenspeckle cut her off and raised his hand, eyes closed. "I do not blame you, my dear, nor do I blame anyone else." Valkyrie looked downcast. Kenspeckle rapidly changed the subject.
"I for one, cannot wait for you to see Skulduggery."
Valkyrie glowered, then faltered. She looked worrisome,"He's going to be so mad," She said softly. Kenspeckle nodded absently, "Yes, that he is." He smiled wanly at her,"Im going to go tell him your OK." He went to leave, but stopped at the last moment,"Oh, and I meant to tell you. That Renn boy, he donated some of his blood to you. You now have some of his DNA." Valkyrie stared,"That is creepy on so many levels." He turned again and opened the door. Skulduggery came storming in, and Valkyrie flinched back. He stopped, and crossed his arms over his chest. Valkyrie waited. Skulduggery's scarf was loose, and his jaw was taut. He spoke.
"So."
"So?"
At this, Skulduggery exploded,"I've been looking out for you, Valkyrie! I've been trying to keep you safe, I've been training you, I've been watching over you! For what? So you can just throw away everything you've been training for and get yourself killed? Or is it because you think your better now? You think your strong enough now? You don't care that its dangerous, because the great Valkyrie Cain, Death Bringer, Darquesse, slayer of the known world, is strong enough to take care of herself!"
Kenspeckle stepped forward, and glared at Skulduggery,"Thats enough." But Skulduggery didn't have enough yet. He wasn't finished. "Stay out of it, Professor!" He turned towards Valkyrie again, and as he opened his mouth, she cut him off angrily,"Thats not why, Skulduggery, and you know it isn't! I was mad, I was distracted, and the last time Caelan told me he had something important, we found Kenspeckle! And if you don't want to watch over me, as you put it, then fine! Don't!" She looked away, eyes filled with angry, and a little hurt, tears.
Skulduggery hesitated, and when he spoke, his voice showed that he regretted what he said. "Valkyrie, I didn't mean that. Your right, I'm sorry. But you could have told me, and I would have came. This wouldn't have happened." Valkyrie wiped her eyes quickly and looked back at him. Her voice was still angry. Skulduggery seemed to know he hit a nerve. She glowered,"I know that."

Skulduggery peeked his head through the door, wanting to know what was keeping Valkyrie. He saw Kenspeckle with a concerned hand on her shoulder, and Valkyrie with her face buried in her knees, arms wrapped around them. He walked in quietly. "Valkyrie?" He said hesitantly. She didnt look up, but she answered, her voice muffeled,"You were right, Skulduggery." He cocked his head,"Huh?" She continued, face still in knees,"Caelan told Fletcher. And Fletcher wont talk to me." Skulduggery froze, not knowing what to say to a 17 year old girl with relationship problems. He didnt speak for a while, then he found his voice,"Let him cool down, then try to explain." Valkyrie sighed and leaned back in the chair, cheeks and forehead red from her knees. "I suppose your right." Skulduggery nodded,"Of course Im right. Im me." Valkyrie nodded, and stood. "Could I have a second alone?" They both nodded, and Kenspeckle and Skulduggery walked out. Valkyrie grabbed her phone, and called Caelan. It took 4 times before he answered.
"What, Valkyrie?"
Valkyrie glared,"How dare you."
Caelan sighed,"I was mad. He had to know, you couldnt keep the boy in the dark forever."
Valkyrie wanted to yell, but hissed instead,"It was not your descision! Im his....well was his girlfriend. I was supposed to decide, Caelan!"
"Im sorry. I know. But I need you to meet me outside the diner near your house."
Valkyrie gaped,"Are you joking?"
"No. I need to show you something. Valkyrie, its important."
Valkyrie hissed agian,"And how do you think Im supposed to tell Skulduggery that?"
He paused,"Tell him you want to go home?"
Valkyrie sighed,"Fine. Fine."
Caelan hung up, and Valkyrie took a deep breath and walked outside. Skulduggery looked at her. She spoke,"I want to go back to my house. I want to spend more time with Alison." Skulduggery nodded,"\Of course." They walked outside, and Skulduggery paused. He turned to Valkyrie,"Im sorry about Fletcher. But hell come around." Valkyrie forced a smile,"Its ok. Im ok." Skulduggery cocked his head,"Valkyrie, you cared for Fletcher." Valkyrie looked at the sidewalk,"Ill be fine. Take me home." She mumbeled. Skulduggery frowned,"Sure." He wrapped a hand around her waist, and she didnt enjoy the fly home. He dropped her off and she used the shadows to lift her to the window. She swung over, and landed on the bed. The reflection was doing her homework. It looked up, and Valkyrie said,"Im not staying. I just need my boots." The reflection nodded, and as soon as Valkyrie strapped them on, she was out the window. She curled her hand around her cold ring and the shadows surrounded her legs, and she flew to the diner her dad took her to once, she ended up eating to many waffles and her dad had to hold her hair back as she vomited. She walked around the building to the alley beside it, and two staggering, drunk men wolf-whistled as she passed. "Hullo, me' lovely. Come have a pint." Valkyrie ignored them and saw Caelan, arms crossed, leaning agianst the brick wall, baring his teeth at the men. He watched Valkyrie near, and muttered something under his breath. He smiled tentatively at Valkyrie, and she glared.
"Im still furious at you."
"Understandable."
"So what did you want?"
He frowned and guestured,"Follow me." They walked down the alley, the night getting darker and darker. Then Valkyries ring turned cold, and she groweled,"Whos dead?" Caelan pointed,"Her. Almost."
Valkyrie looked where he was pointing, and saw a young girl writhing in pain on the floor. Caelan grabbed her wrist and helped her up, but the top of her head was covered in blood, and as Caelan breathed in, he froze, and eyes glinted monsterously. Valkyrie backed up,"Caelan?" She said warily. He looked at her and grinned visciously. He slammed into her, and Valkyrie lashed out, her injured leg twitching in pain. They wrestled, and Caelan grabbed her wrist and she yelled,"No!" As he sank his fangs into her skin, making her shout in pain. He drained her arm of blood and she writhed and tryed to pull back her arm. Then more blood drained out of her body, and her eyelids got heavy, and the last thing she saw was Caelan jumping up as a person stood behind him.

Fletcher sat on Valkyries roof, looking over the city of Haggard. When he saw Skulduggery, he ducked and hid, and watched Valkyrie go in her house, then out agian. He followed her from the rooftops, watching her walk into an alley. He saw her lips move, and stiffened when he saw who she was talking to. He shook in anger, admiring the nerve she had to move on so fast. Obviously she had always loved Caelan better. Then he heard a shout, and saw Caelan slam into Valkyrie. He jumped up and teleported to a spot two men playing cards on a bench wouldnt see. He sped off into the alley, and saw Valkyrie limp in Caelans arms, his lips on her wrist. Fletcher roared and pulled out the taser he had from when Aeron attacked him, jabbing it into Caelans neck. He teleported to a hunting store and stole a sharp knife, and slashed Caelan as many times as possible. As Caelan shook his head and looked at Valkyrie, horrified. He grabbed Fletcher as he teleported, and Fletcher ran into Kenspeckles lab. He bellowed,"SKULDUGGERY!" And Skulduggery ran into the room. He saw Valkyrie and ran up to Fletcher, and took her. He flew into Kenspeckles office, and Fletcher ran after him, Caelan behind him. Kenspeckles eyes widened as he laid Valkyrie on the bed, and yelled, "Shes lost to much blood, she needs someone to donate some."
Fletcher ran up to him,"Here, take mine!" Kenspeckle pulled out a un familiar looking tool and stabbed it into Fletchers wrist. He grabbed the wire connected to it and stabbed into Valkyries wrist, and started pumping blood from Fletcher into Valkyrie. After 40 seconds, Fletcher felt woozy and Kenspeckle let out a breath,"Ok, shell be fine. Now get out, while I work on her bite." Skulduggery stiffened,"Bite?" Kenspeckle glared at him,"Shoo!" And they walked out. Fletcher sat down, pale and nasueas from the blood loss. Skulduggery looked up as Caelan walked through the entrance, and Blaine, Erskine , and Ghastly walked through the door behind him. He yanked out his gun and shot at Caelan three times, missing. Caelan backed up, hands out,"Stop! I couldnt control it!" Ghastly ran up to Skulduggery and pulled him back,"What happened?" Skulduggery snarled,"He bit Valkyrie."
"What, Valkyrie?"
Valkyrie glared,"How dare you."

He frowned and guestured,"Follow me." They walked down the alley, the night getting darker and darker. Then Valkyries ring turned cold, and she groweled,"Whos dead?" Caelan pointed,"Her. Almost."
Valkyrie looked where he was pointing, and saw a young girl writhing in pain on the floor. Caelan grabbed her wrist and helped her up, but the top of her head was covered in blood, and as Caelan breathed in, he froze, and eyes glinted monsterously. Valkyrie backed up,"Caelan?" She said warily. He looked at her and grinned visciously. He slammed into her, and Valkyrie lashed out, her injured leg twitching in pain. They wrestled, and Caelan grabbed her wrist and she yelled,"No!" As he sank his fangs into her skin, making her shout in pain. He drained her arm of blood and she writhed and tryed to pull back her arm. Then more blood drained out of her body, and her eyelids got heavy, and the last thing she saw was Caelan jumping up as a person stood behind him.

Fletcher sat on Valkyries roof, looking over the city of Haggard. When he saw Skulduggery, he ducked and hid, and watched Valkyrie go in her house, then out agian. He followed her from the rooftops, watching her walk into an alley. He saw her lips move, and stiffened when he saw who she was talking to. He shook in anger, admiring the nerve she had to move on so fast. Obviously she had always loved Caelan better. Then he heard a shout, and saw Caelan slam into Valkyrie. He jumped up and teleported to a spot two men playing cards on a bench wouldnt see. He sped off into the alley, and saw Valkyrie limp in Caelans arms, his lips on her wrist. Fletcher roared and pulled out the taser he had from when Aeron attacked him, jabbing it into Caelans neck. He teleported to a hunting store and stole a sharp knife, and slashed Caelan as many times as possible. As Caelan shook his head and looked at Valkyrie, horrified. He grabbed Fletcher as he teleported, and Fletcher ran into Kenspeckles lab. He bellowed,"SKULDUGGERY!" And Skulduggery ran into the room. He saw Valkyrie and ran up to Fletcher, and took her. He flew into Kenspeckles office, and Fletcher ran after him, Caelan behind him. Kenspeckles eyes widened as he laid Valkyrie on the bed, and yelled, "Shes lost to much blood, she needs someone to donate some."
Fletcher ran up to him,"Here, take mine!" Kenspeckle pulled out a un familiar looking tool and stabbed it into Fletchers wrist. He grabbed the wire connected to it and stabbed into Valkyries wrist, and started pumping blood from Fletcher into Valkyrie. After 40 seconds, Fletcher felt woozy and Kenspeckle let out a breath,"Ok, shell be fine. Now get out, while I work on her bite." Skulduggery stiffened,"Bite?" Kenspeckle glared at him,"Shoo!" And they walked out. Fletcher sat down, pale and nasueas from the blood loss. Skulduggery looked up as Caelan walked through the entrance, and Blaine, Erskine , and Ghastly walked through the door behind him. He yanked out his gun and shot at Caelan three times, missing. Caelan backed up, hands out,"Stop! I couldnt control it!" Ghastly ran up to Skulduggery and pulled him back,"What happened?" Skulduggery snarled,"He bit Valkyrie."

Valkyrie Cain
It turned out Valkyries leg bone was shattered. She spent 2 hours laying in a tub of special mud. Skulduggery, Ghastly, and Erskine stood in a circle, talking about Aeron. Blaine was slouched in a chair, and Caelan was hidden in the corner, leaning agianst the wall and glaring at Fletcher, who was standing next to Valkyrie and holding her hand. Kenspeckle walked in and shooed Fletcher away, closing the blinds and helping Valkyrie out of the tub. When they got a robe around her, she limped over to Skulduggery. He looked at her,"All better?" Valkyrie smiled, but before she could speak, the phone in Skulduggerys pocket rang. He took it out and held it out for Valkyrie. "Its yours." Valkyrie looked like she was about to ask why he had her phone, but thought better of it, and answered the phone. "Hello?"
The reflection answered in her cold voice,"Your mothers having her child."
Valkyries jaw dropped, and she hissed,"No! Dammit! Ill be there!"
The reflection answered,"Fine. Hurry."
Valkyrie flipped the phone closed and looked at Skulduggery,"My moms in labor! How do I go there with a limp? What do I wear?!" Skulduggery cursed under his breath. Valkyrie started to panic. Skulduggery shook his head,"Calm down. Kenspeckle, do you still have Clarabelles things?" Kenspeckle eyed him warily,"Yes?" Skulduggery looked at her,"Take some of her clothes. Say you fell down the stairs." Valkyrie nodded. Fletcher teleported her to Clarabelles room, and Valkyrie grabbed the nearest things she could find. She paused and glared at Fletcher. "Stand in the corner!" Fletcher sighed and turned, his head leaned on the wall. Valkyrie whipped on the clothes, and then grabbed Fletchers shoulder. "To my room!" The Reflection was lounging on her bed, and sighed irritably when she saw the couple, starting to undress. Valkyrie kissed Fletcher quickly,"Leave, Bye." Fletcher vanished, and Valkyrie put on the Reflections discarded clothes. She raced down the stairs, and at the last step she tumbeled down purpousley. She cursed and put on an expression of fake pain. Her dad glanced at her,"Come on!" Valkyrie nodded nervously and they all raced in the car. Her mother gripped Desmonds hand tightly and took deep fast breaths. Her dad sped down the highway to the nearest Hospital, which was mercifully 5 minutes away.
They ran in and Valkyrie held her mothers hands and helped her up and her father talked to the man at the desk. Five minutes later, they were in a plain white room, her mother laying on the bed, a blanket over her as the Nurse was bent over her lower half, looking up. Before Valkyrie thought possible, there was a wail and her new sister was in her mothers arms. The screaming child was covered in blood, before the doctor grabbed her and put her in the incubator, poking and prodding her. Valkyrie looked at her, Alisons bright blue eyes narrowed and wrinkled. Her round pink cheeks puffed out as her red lips widened. She screamed and screamed, until she was given to Valkyrie. Valkyrie held her in an awkward cradle, though Alison looked comfortable. Once Alison was sure the Nurse was done poking her, she smiled at Valkyrie, her toothless mouth opened in a smiled. Valkyrie took out her phone and snapped a picture, making a note to show everyone. She cooed at Alison, snuggiling her new sister. She had a head full of dark hair, like Valkyries, though her eyes were exactly her fathers. Desmond held his eyes out,"Give her to me." Valkyrie obeyed, and Desmond held her close,"Whos the pretty baby?" He cooed over and over. They took turns holding her, and when Valkyrie got her agian, Alison smiled and vomited all over her top. Valkyrie retched and handed her to her father, who was roaring with laughter. After she cleaned herself up, the Doctors messed with Alison agian, and they got to go home. Valkyrie grabbed Alison back,"Please dont throw up on me agian, pretty girl.", She murmured. Alison grinned, her gums flashing, and Valkyrie smiled back. While Valkyrie went upstairs to change, her phone rang, and Skulduggery answered.
"Valkyrie, we have a small problem."
Valkyrie scoweled,"What, Skulduggery?"
Skulduggery paused,"Er, Fletcher and Caelan got into a fight, and I cant find either of them."
Valkyrie cursed,"Fine, come pick me up."
"Ok, Ill be there in 2 minutes."
"Im flying", he added.
Valkyrie hung up, and touched her mirror. The Reflection walked out,"Back so soon?" Valkyrie scoweled and changed into her outfit Ghastly Bespoke made her, and jumped out the window. She went to land in a graceful crouch, but a pain shot through her leg and she yelped and her hands went instinctively to her leg, and she fell on her face. When she rolled over, Skulduggery Pleasant was offering her his gloved hand. She gripped it and he yanked her up. He looked at her,"Hows your new sister?" Valkyrie grinned, looking more happy then she had in weeks. "Alisons wonderful. Her head isnt even that abnormal!" Skulduggery laughed and said,"Cheers then." Valkyrie took out her phone,"Here she is." She showed Skulduggery the image, and Skulduggery smiled, amused by Valkyries glee.
Valkyrie nodded absently, and looked at the picture. Skulduggery wrapped an arm around her waist and they flew, over the rooftops so no one would spot them. Valkyrie grinned, loving the feeling of flying. Skulduggerys training had changed since Tanith had the Remnant transformation, and they focused more on her Necromancer and Elemental powers, and her flying hadnt really brought her more than a hover lately. They landed, and Skulduggery unwrapped his hand from her. They strolled into the theater, passed the moldy, moth covered seats and walked into the bright white Lab Kenspeckle owned. He smiled warmly at Valkyrie,"How is your new sister?" Valkyrie grinned, and showed him the picture. He grinned back, seeing how much this meant to her, and he laughed as she instantly showed Erskine and Ghastly the picture as they walked in. Blaine swaggered in, hands in pocket and Valkyrie glared at him, still uncomfortable of him seeing her without her shirt on. He grinned cockily, guessing her reason for glaring, and she flushed a furious red. She crossed her arms and turned toward Erskine,"Why is he still here?" Erskine glared at Blaine,"I told you, Im stuck with the brat until he works off his jail time." Valkyrie sighed and looked at Skulduggery,"So what happened to Fletcher and Caelan?" Skulduggery shrugged, "We were all in the other room, then we heard yelling, we came out and they were gone." Valkyrie sighed, and walked into the other room, and dialed Fetchers number. It answered on the first ring,"Dont talk to me."
Valkyrie frowned,"Whats wrong?"
"Caelan told me everything."
Valkyrie froze, her heart dropping to her stomach, her body freezing. She spluttered,"Fletcher, I" But he hung up, and Valkyrie gaped at the phone. She groaned and sank into the nearest chair, face buried in hands. Kenspeckle walked over to her and she heard his voice, sounding concerned,"Valkyrie? Whats wrong?" Valkyrie peeked through her hands and said, her voice strained and shaky,"I just lost my boyfriend."

Valkyrie Cain
Valkyrie muttered,"I told you so." They all looked at her. Skulduggery stared,"Excuse me?"
"Did I not say, 'bad things always happen at the Sanctuary'? And what did you say?" She mimed a poorly done, low Skulduggery voice,"Stop being so pessimisstic, Valkyrie. You dont know anything, Valkyrie. Blah blah blah, Valkyrie."
"First, I do not, nor will I EVER, talk like that. Second, shut up."
Valkyrie glared at him. She crossed her arms, "So"- But she stopped. They all froze, as a low roar came from the floor. The ground beneath Valkyrie cracked and Skulduggery yelled,"Valkyrie move!" As Billy-Ray Sanguine grabbed her ankles and pulled her into the ground. The last thing she saw was Skulduggerys foot as she sank into the ground.

Skulduggery paused. "Dammit." Erskine stared at the floor, which was webbed with cracks, then looked at Ghastly, "Now what?"
Ghastly stared,"How the hell am I supposed to know?" Erskine frowned,"Your an Elder." Ghastly glared,"Your the Grand Mage." Erskine frowned,"Damn." Then the ground erupted agian and Valkyrie Cain went shooting out, going about ten feet in the air, and falling down. Sanguine emerged from the floor also, and swayed. Valkyrie dropped in front of him, and Skulduggery ran over to her. He grabbed her hand, and lifted her up. She giggled,"Your a Skeleton." She said woozily. They all gaped at her, except Sanguine, who appeared to be remebering how to walk. Skulduggery frowned,"Valkyrie...?" She laughed drunkly,"Yesss?" Skulduggery frowned. Valkyrie made a show of looking past Skulduggery, at the three people standing behind him, gaping. She shrieked,"I know you!" She pointed to Ghastly,"And you!" She pointed to Erskine. "Oooh, I dont like you. Nope nope nope, your very annoying." She pointed at Blaine. She took a step, then groaned and clutched at her leg, which was bleeding. "Owchie. That hurts. Bad." Skulduggery looked, and sighed,"Come on Valkyrie, lets get you to Kenspeckle." He pulled her up, put she couldnt walk. "You have got to be joking..." He muttered. He sighed agian and lifted her up. Ghastly and Erskine followed Skulduggery into the car. Blaine yelled,"What about me?" Erskine scoweled,"I suppose you have to come." Skulduggery plopped Valkyrie into the front seat, and turned toward Sanguine. "Sanguine?" He turned slowly and walked woozily into the car. The four men where squished in the back seat, and Skulduggery looked at them and laughed. He got in the car and shook his head, "Ill call Fletcher." The three men got up, but Sanguine stayed inside. Skulduggery looked at Valkyrie. She giggled and reached for him,"Youve got no skin, Skulduggery!" Skulduggery reached down and plucked the phone from her pocket. He looked through her contacts and pressed the button named Fletcher Renn. It rang three times, and then an irritable voice answered.
"Fletcher, I need you to come to the Sanctuary."
"Why?"
"Because all of us wont fit in the car. Ill explain later, just come." Valkyrie looked up,"Oooh, thats my boyfriend! Tell him I said Hello!" Fletcher paused,"Was that Valkyrie?" Skulduggery sighed,"Just come!" He hung up and threw the phone in Valkyries lap. It hit her right thigh, and she cringed. Skulduggery picked her up and turned, to see Fletcher standing there, looking concerned. "What happened toValkyrie?" Skulduggery looked at her, and she reached for Fletchers hair,"Oooh....Its all pointy. Like a little porcipine. Or is it a beaver...?" She giggled,"Oh well!" Fletcher gaped. "What did you do to Valkyrie?" Sanguine stumbeled out of the car. He looked at Fletcher from the floor. "She...her coat.....bomb.....kill..." Skulduggery ripped her coat off and they saw a tiny chip flashing from the coat, he launched the coat onto the rubble that used to be the Sanctuary, and they all looked at her. He frowned,"Oh dear." Valkyries vest was now shredded, leaving her chest almost completly visible, had it not been for bra she was wearing. Skulduggery wrapped his jacket around her, and snarled at Blaines grinning form. Blaine sobered up at once, and Fletcher scoweled,"Whos that?" Skulduggery shook his head and said,"Kenspeckles." Fletcher nodded, and everyone stuck their hand out. Fletcher put his on top, and they all appeared in Kenspeckles Lab. Kenspeckle whirled around, saw Valkyrie limp, (now sleeping), in Skulduggerys arms, and cursed under his breath. "Give her to me" Skulduggery handed Kenspeckle Valkyrie, who just woke up. "Ohh! Everyones here! Are we having a party?" Kenspeckle stared at Valkyrie. He turned around and walked into the other room, Skulduggery, Fletcher, Ghastly, and Erskine following. They watched as Kenspeckle examined her. Skulduggery cleared his throat,"You might want to, er, pull the blinds over before you take off that jacket." Kenspeckle shook his head exasperatedly. He yanked the blinds around Valkyrie and they all stood there. Erskine shook his head,"This day is just odd." Then Caelan walked in. They all froze, and Skulduggery groaned,"Tell me about it." He looked over at Caelan,"What do you want?" Then the curtains yanked back, to see Valkyrie in a blue robe, gazing blearily at them all. "What happened?" Kenspeckle poked her leg and she yelled a curse word, jumping back. He tittered,"Stay still. Ill be back." Caelan stared at her,"What happened?" Valkyrie looked over at Sanguine and scoweled, this is all his fault. He took us to an odd place, and then there was a man, he shot a dart at me, he did something to Sanguine, and I flew out of the floor." Skulduggery cocked his head,"A dart? He must be very old-fashioned." Valkyrie glared,"Thats what your worried about?" Skulduggery frowned, actually, Im more worried about how were in a room where 4 out of 6 people like you better then me." Valkyrie stuck her tounge out at him and looked around. She scoweled,"Whats Blaine doing here? Where are my clothes?" Skulduggery cleared his throat loudly, and Valkyrie blushed and groaned,"Your kidding me." Blaine grinned,"Well I enjoyed it." Erskine snapped,"Blaine!" Fletcher glared,"And who are you, agian?" Blaine smirked,"The guy your girlfriends secretly in love with, even if she just hasnt realised it." Skulduggery groweled,"Blaine, get out. Wait in the other room." Blaine scoweled and trudged to the door.

Skulduggery sighed,"Just come!" He hung up and threw the phone in Valkyries lap. It hit her right thigh, and she cringed. Skulduggery picked her up and turned, to see Fletcher standing there, looking concerned. "What happened toValkyrie?" Skulduggery looked at her, and she reached for Fletchers hair,"Oooh....Its all pointy. Like a little porcipine. Or is it a beaver...?" She giggled,"Oh well!" Fletcher gaped. "What did you do to Valkyrie?" Sanguine stumbeled out of the car. He looked at Fletcher from the floor. "She...her coat.....bomb.....kill..." Skulduggery ripped her coat off and they saw a tiny chip flashing from the coat, he launched the coat onto the rubble that used to be the Sanctuary, and they all looked at her. He frowned,"Oh dear." Valkyries vest was now shredded, leaving her chest almost completly visible, had it not been for bra she was wearing. Skulduggery wrapped his jacket around her, and snarled at Blaines grinning form. Blaine sobered up at once, and Fletcher scoweled,"Whos that?" Skulduggery shook his head and said,"Kenspeckles." Fletcher nodded, and everyone stuck their hand out. Fletcher put his on top, and they all appeared in Kenspeckles Lab. Kenspeckle whirled around, saw Valkyrie limp, (now sleeping), in Skulduggerys arms, and cursed under his breath. "Give her to me" Skulduggery handed Kenspeckle Valkyrie, who just woke up. "Ohh! Everyones here! Are we having a party?" Kenspeckle stared at Valkyrie. He turned around and walked into the other room, Skulduggery, Fletcher, Ghastly, and Erskine following. They watched as Kenspeckle examined her. Skulduggery cleared his throat,"You might want to, er, pull the blinds over before you take off that jacket." Kenspeckle shook his head exasperatedly. He yanked the blinds around Valkyrie and they all stood there. Erskine shook his head,"This day is just odd." Then Caelan walked in. They all froze, and Skulduggery groaned,"Tell me about it." He looked over at Caelan,"What do you want?" Then the curtains yanked back, to see Valkyrie in a blue robe, gazing blearily at them all. "What happened?" Kenspeckle poked her leg and she yelled a curse word, jumping back. He tittered,"Stay still. Ill be back." Caelan stared at her,"What happened?" Valkyrie looked over at Sanguine and scoweled, this is all his fault. He took us to an odd place, and then there was a man, he shot a dart at me, he did something to Sanguine, and I flew out of the floor." Skulduggery cocked his head,"A dart? He must be very old-fashioned." Valkyrie glared,"Thats what your worried about?" Skulduggery frowned, actually, Im more worried about how were in a room where 4 out of 6 people like you better then me." Valkyrie stuck her tounge out at him and looked around. She scoweled,"Whats Blaine doing here? Where are my clothes?" Skulduggery cleared his throat loudly, and Valkyrie blushed and groaned,"Your kidding me." Blaine grinned,"Well I enjoyed it." Erskine snapped,"Blaine!" Fletcher glared,"And who are you, agian?" Blaine smirked,"The guy your girlfriends secretly in love with, even if she just hasnt realised it." Skulduggery groweled,"Blaine, get out. Wait in the other room." Blaine scoweled and trudged to the door.
Valkyrie Cain
Caelan spoke, his voice strained,"Just giving back Kenspeckles control potions. Ill be leaving soon." Valkyrie stared for a second, then sucked in a breath,"Oh. Kenspeckles.....control..." Caelans face tightened and he glared at Valkyries shoulderblade. She looked, to see blood falling down softly, and looked at Caelan,"Whoops. Sorry. Ill leave." Caelan nodded and didnt say anything, his eyes on Valkyrie as she and Skulduggery walked into the room Kenspeckle was in. Valkyrie closed the door and looked around, to see Kenspeckle examining the hand of the man who attacked her. He looked up at Valkyrie and frowned,"Valkyrie, your bleeding. Has my punishment taught you nothing?" Valkyrie paused, and said,"Um...are you OK with me staying here?" Kenspeckle waved his hand airly,"Im to brilliant to fall into those charms. I just had my potions, and not one iota of me desires to harm you, seeing as it recognizes you." Valkyrie raised her eyebrows,"Impressive." He nodded,"I am, arent I?" She smiled, and then it faded as she walked towards the man unconsious on the table. She stared,"Thats definitley him." Skulduggery opened his mouth as the man twitched, and then time seemed to freeze. Then the man opened his eyes and Kenspeckle dived toward the needle on the floor as the man jumped up and looked over at Valkyrie. He grinned,"Oh how lovely! Youve brought her to me." He pounced on Valkyrie but she twisted out of his grip and kicked his face. He smiled,"That hurt." He ducked under Skulduggery and jumped over Kenspeckle, who threw the needle towards Valkyrie. Valkyrie caught it and dived into the man, but he grabbed her hand holding the needle and threw it away. He wrapped two hands around her waist and murmured,"Your perfect....Ooh yes..." Then Skulduggery slammed into the both of them and accidentally socked Valkyrie in the face. She staggered back and clutched her nose, glaring at Skulduggery. He looked at her,"Oops." He went at the attacker, and grunted,"Who...are.....you", through punches. The man easily ducked through every one, and laughed, his eyes glinting. "Aeron. Now if youll excuse me, we have to leave." Kenspeckle frowned,"We?" Aeron laughed,"Great question." He dived toward Valkyrie but she ducked back and punched his eye. He backed up and she kicked his throat, then chopped at his stomach. He snarled,"Stop that." Skulduggery took out his gun and thumbed off the safety. He groweled,"Get away from Valkyrie."
Aeron turned and smiled at Skulduggery. "Sorry, but she has a job to do."
"What job would that be?"
"Ooh! That would spoil the surprise if I told you, wouldnt it?" He then raised his hand and Kenspeckle flew out of the room. He turned towards Skulduggery, but he was already gone. He frowned, and then there was a BAM throughout the room as Caelan ran in to see Valkyrie on the floor, struggiling to keep out of Aerons grasp. He snarled and pounced on Aeron, but Aeron was determined on getting at Valkyrie, and a shadow flew through Caelans legs. Caelan roared in pain and crumpeled to the floor, his legs broken. Aeron turned to Valkyrie, who was up agianst the wall, struggiling agianst the shadows that pinned her arms and legs together, and grinned visciously. "Finally." But Skulduggery dropped from the ceiling and locked a choke hold on Aeron. Aeron snarled and backed out of it. "Ill be back, Valkyrie Cain. You cant hide from destiny." He vanished, shadows surrounding him. Skulduggery turned to Valkyrie, who fell to the floor as Aeron vanished. Kenspeckle then ran in, and ran towards Valkyrie. He helped her up, but she stood fine,"Im OK. Help Caelan." Kenspeckle turned reluctantly towards Caelan crumpeled form and Skulduggery shook his head. "Why does he want you so bad." Valkyrie shrugged. "Something with Darquesse agian?" Skulduggery nodded,"Maybe. But I dont think so. He called you Valkyrie. Not Darquesse. We need to go to the Sanctuary and tell Ghastly and Erskine what we know." Valkyrie nodded. They walked out the room, to see Kenspeckle bent over Caelan, working on his legs with an odd looking machine. Valkyrie called out,"Good bye Kenspeckle" As she walked out, and she heard a wary,"Good bye Valkyrie" in return.
Ten minutes later, they were walking towards the Sanctuary. Valkyrie spoke,"Why are you so quiet?" Skulduggery looked at her,"Am I?" Valkyrie nodded,"You are." He shrugged,"Thinking heavy thoughts. Like why Aeron tryed to kill you this morning but wanted you alive earlier." Skulduggery turned and looked at the doors to the Sanctuary, and scoweled,"Fantastic." Valkyrie turned to see Blaine leaning agianst the doors, grinning as he saw Valkryie. They neared and he spoke out,"Hello lovely. Ive been wondering when youd show up. You didnt take long, now did you?"
"Blaine, did it ever occur to you that I might have a boyfriend?"
Blaine frowned and shook his head,"Hm.. Cant say I have. Your point?" Valkyrie sighed,"Never mind." Skulduggery shoved past him and Valkyrie followed. Blaine tagged along,"What happened to your lip, gorgeous?" Valkyrie glared at Skulduggery,"Ask this fool." Skulduggery shrugged,"You were getting quite agitating." Valkyrie snorted. They went through the door, and walked into the Sanctuary hallway. Skulduggery lead the way, and Valkyrie and Blaine followed. Blaine spoke agian,"So what happened now?" Valkyrie glared at him,"None of your business." Blaine winked,"It could be." Valkyrie frowned,"Yet, it never will be." Then they heard a yell, and Ghastly and Erskine came pounding down the hallway. Ghastly roared,"Get out of here!" As the walls behind them collapsed. All five of them started running, Valkyrie screamed,"What happened?" Erskine bellowed above the screech of metal ripping,"Sanguine broke through the foundations and did something to the building." Valkyrie saw people looking in surprise at the walls, then running and yelling, or getting caught in the crush. They all jumped through the Emergency Exit and landed outside, watching the Sanctuary collapse.

Valkyrie Cain
Fletcher popped in front of his house, a two story black house, modest and pretty, with a large front yard and a large tree. Fletcher wondered if his mom planted the flowers on the windowsills, that he watered every other day. He walked up to the door, until a body slammed into him. He flew into the tree in front of his house, and grunted as a fist slammed into his face. He groweled and teleported behind the attacker, and kicked his legs beneath him. The man went sprawling, and Fletcher looked at his face. He had raven black hair, and he had bright red eyes. His tan skin was covered with sweat, as if hed been running a long way. He had pale thin lips, and his eyes closed as his hand twitched, and he spoke,"Wheres Valkyrie Cain?" and Fletcher dived to the side as a stream of black shadows hurtled toward him. It caught flame to the tree somehow, and Fletcher roared in fury and dived into him, teleporting to the gym and grabbing a dumbbell, then teleporting back and swinging it into his head. Fletcher teleported inside and grabbed a bucket, filled it with water, and put out the tree fire. He teleported into the police station and grabbed a taser, then teleported back and jabbed it in the mans thigh. He then grabbed the man and teleported into the top of his roof, and threw him down with all force. He jumped down and landed on the mans limp body. Once he was sure the man was unconcious, he grabbed his phone and dialed Valkyries number. He muttered to himself,"Please answer..." And then it answered, to Valkyries voice.
"Hullo?"
"Valkyrie. Are you with Skulduggery?!"
"Not at this exact moment, as account of me going back to the car and getting his extra gun. Why? Fletcher what do you know?"
Fletcher spoke fast,"Someones coming for you, he just attacked me, I think its the man who attacked you earlier." He heard Valkyrie mutter something that sounded like,"Hes getting annoying..." And then Valkyrie spoke up,"Fletcher Ill be fine. Were far away, anyway, where is he?" Fletcher glared at the sidewalk,"Fine. Hes under my feet, unconcious." He heard nothing, then a deep breath,"Fletcher bring him to Kenspeckles in 90 seconds when I hang up. Ill call Kenspeckle. Bye." The line went dead.

Valkyrie dialed Kenspeckle as fast as she could. It answered on first ring,"Valkyrie?"
"Fletchers coming"
"Oh, joy." He spat drily. Valkyrie rolled her eyes,"He has the man who attacked me earlier, i need you to hold him for me. Please? Me and Skulduggery are doing something important right now."
"Fine." Valkyrie smiled,"Thanks. Bye." Valkyrie hung up, and snatched the gun from the seat and ran towards Skulduggery. He was waiting by the front door of the house, and grabbed the gun from her. "Thanks." Valkyrie spoke,"Fletcher has the man who attacked me. Hes bringing him to Kenspeckles." Skulduggery froze and stared her down,"Kenspeckle knows?" She nodded. He cocked his head,"Wonderful. Do remind me to give the boy a pat on the head, will you?" Valkyrie glared. Skulduggery smiled. "Ill take that as a no..." They walked in, and Valkyrie pointed to her ring, feeling a sense of deja vu. Last year, in the house filled with dead bodies. He looked at her. She nodded and mouthed Death. Skulduggery stared around the house, and peeked through door by door. Finally he peeked through one and nodded. They walked in to see 4 dead teenagers, horror frozen forever on their faces, pale and throats ripped savagely. There was definitaley a Vampire in here. She walked out and Skulduggery followed, and he wrapped an arm around her waist and flew them to the top step of the stairs. They crept toward a door, hearing groaning noises, sounding like a man in pain. Skulduggery opened the door and they walked in. The second Valkyrie stepped in, she heard a snarl and Skulduggery shoved her out of the way of a man pouncing toward her. Skulduggery wrapped his skeletal amrms around the Vampires snarling figure and threw him away from her. The Vampire kept his eyes locked on Valkyrie. She stepped foward and he bared his teeth. His blond shaggy hair framing his thin hollow face. He was handsome, in a creepy way. Skulduggery spoke,"You will not hurt me or my partner, not because you wont try, but because I am amazingly amazing and you wont be able to." The Vampire kept his eyes on Valkyrie but spoke,"It was stupid to bring her here. She wont survive." Skulduggery spoke,"Did I not just point out that she will? Or was I just thinking it?" Valkyrie spoke,"When were you turned." The Vampire snarled,"3 days ago." Valkyrie replied,"Do you know who turned you? Or why?" The Vampire took a deep shuddering breath and groweled softly. She wondered why Kenspeckle, a new born Vampire, didnt have to use effort to keep his cool around her. The Vampire spoke,"His name was, I belive, Alexandre Ruse. He did speak, but I only caught words." Skulduggery spoke,"What words?"
"Hm...A man....Grouse I belive was his name. And a girl. Valkyrie, Valkyrie Cain was her name." Valkyrie sucked in a breath and looked at Skulduggery. He stiffened. "Thank you. Were going to leave now." The Vampire smiled,"But you just got here?" He slammed into Skulduggery suddenly, and they wrestled. Leaving Valkyrie, trying to get a shot at the Vampire, with no safe spot to choose, fearing hurting Skulduggery. The Vampire lifted Skulduggery and Valkyrie took her shot. She shot a spike of shadow at the Vampires leg, splintering it. He howeled, and threw Skulduggery through the window. Valkyrie scoweled,"Bloody hell." The Vampire bound toward her and she jumped over it, storming through the door. She slid down the banister of the stairs and jumped off too early, using the air to stop her fall. She went to open the door but the Vampire grabbed her. "This will hurt, Im afraid." He snarled and went to bite Valkyries shoulder, but she pushed at the air and sent him flying. She ran towards him and somersaulted over him, jumping through the window. She saw Skulduggery running to the other side of the house. She glared,"Idiot." She chased after him, and saw the Vampire chase after her. She sped up, and yelled,"Skulduggery!" He whirled, and changed direction, running straight towards her. She froze and waited, then when he got close enough, she flipped over him and watched him shoot at the Vampire 3 times. The Vampire snarled and backed up. Skulduggery cocked his head,"Told you we would survive." The Vampire bared his fangs at him, and turned and ran back into the house. Skulduggery turned towards her and gripped her shoulder, "Stay still," He ordered. She obeyed, and he gripped the edge of a glass shard sticking out of her shoulderblade, and tugged, yanking it out and throwing the bloody thing to the ground. He walked towards the car,"Come on." They got into the car and Valkyrie spoke,"Were going to Kenspeckles now, right?" Skulduggery nodded, appearing to deep in thought to speak. Valkyrie waited, and then she said,"What are you thinking about?" Skulduggery looked at her,"Why Ruse is going after you." She shrugged,"Actually, im thinking about the man waiting in Kenspeckles Observatory right now." Skulduggery nodded,"Yes, that to." Valkyrie leaned back into the seat and closed her eyes.
"Tired?"
"Much."
Skulduggery was slient, and then he spoke,"You should spend more time with your family, Valkyrie." Valkyrie groaned,"Not this agian. Skulduggery, I would love to, but I cant anymore. I spend all the time I can get, but I have a real life now, and my parents cant get involved in it, no matter how much I miss them." Skulduggery sighed,"I know. Never mind." Valkyrie pushed the chair back, and started to relax, as Skulduggery parked. "Where here." Valkyrie glared. They walked into the theater, passing the usual movie theater equipment, then going into Kenspeckles lab. They walked in, to see Caelan standing there, bottles in hand, looking surprised to see them. Valkyrie sighed,"Wonderful."

She shrugged,"Actually, im thinking about the man waiting in Kenspeckles Observatory right now." Skulduggery nodded,"Yes, that to." Valkyrie leaned back into the seat and closed her eyes.
"Tired?"

Skulduggery was slient, and then he spoke,"You should spend more time with your family, Valkyrie." Valkyrie groaned,"Not this agian. Skulduggery, I would love to, but I cant anymore. I spend all the time I can get, but I have a real life now, and my parents cant get involved in it, no matter how much I miss them." Skulduggery sighed,"I know. Never mind." Valkyrie pushed the chair back, and started to relax, as Skulduggery parked. "Where here." Valkyrie glared. They walked into the theater, passing the usual movie theater equipment, then going into Kenspeckles lab. They walked in, to see Caelan standing there, bottles in hand, looking surprised to see them. Valkyrie sighed,"Wonderful."
Valkyrie Cain
The second Skulduggery shut the door he turned to Erskine,"You keep that boy away from Valkyrie." Erskine nodded,"Ah, there it is. I was wondering when youd say something." He shrugged,"He wont listen to me, but Im sure Valkyrie can take care of herself if he tried anything." Then they heard a yelp, and Erskine laughed,"That was fast." Skulduggery shook his head and sighed, then began talking.
"Kenspeckles alive. Well, Sort of."
They stared at him blankly, and Skulduggery nodded,"Caelan took Valkyrie to the Hibernian, and there he was. She called me and I came over. I saw him." Ghastly paled,"How?" Skulduggery looked at him,"Hes a Vampire." Erskine recoiled,"Is that even possible?" Skulduggery shrugged, "I suppose so."
"Caelan told me he saw the Vampire who turned him, but didnt know his name. I need to know who." Erskine shrugged,"Why?" Skulduggery stared at him,"Caelan said the Vampire was talking while Kenspeckle was still just Infected. He was talking about why he turned him. He said something-Caelan wasnt sure what-about Valkyrie." Erskine nodded,"OK. Ill talk to some people, and get back to you. But anyways, theres been murders going around, and I need you and Valkyries help." Skulduggery inturupted him,"Lets talk outside." They opened the door and and went back into the hallway, where they saw Valkyrie with her arms wrapped around her chest tightly and staring agitatedly and looking truly uncomfortable at the other corner of the room. Blaine was grinning to himself, and nursing a scorch mark on his right hand. Valkyrie glared at Skulduggery as they came out, accusing him. He shrugged apologetically and said,"So what is it you wanted Erskine." Erskine turned to Skulduggery, and Valkyrie stepped closer. Ghastly spoke.
"Theres been a series of murders lately, in this locale area. All the bodies seemed to have had their insides....shattered." Valkyrie gaped at him. "Is that the same guy that attacked me?" Ghastly looked from Skulduggery to Valkyrie. Skulduggery cocked his skull,"A man crashed into Bentley, then when Valkyrie broke his ribs he raised his hand and did something to her." Her stomach stung, as if it was remebering the pain. Erskine looked at Valkyrie,"What did he do?" Valkyrie shrugged, He lifted his hand and he had on a red glove, there were black shadows all over it. Then he just pointed and it felt like my insides were shattering over and over agian." Ghastly muttered to himself, thinking hard. He looked up and shook his head,"Ive never heard of him." Erskine shrugged,"Nor have i." Skulduggery cocked his skull agian,"We'll figure it out." Ghastly smiled,"Thank you. Its been so busy. A man ran screaming in this morning about a Vampire who turned his brother." Skulduggery stared,"Who was this man?" Erskine ravel said,"Cain Brok, I belive." Skulduggery nodded. "Lets go Valkyrie." Valkyrie smiled at the two men, "Bye." They smiled back. Blaine fake pouted,"No good bye for me?" Valkyrie scoweled,"Good bye Blaine." Blaine winked and Valkyrie turned and walked out, where Skulduggery was.

"So how was your time with Blaine?" Valkyrie scoweled at Skulduggery,"Oh shut up." He laughed,"Im almost 100 percent sure that youve replaced China with your new powers. Theyre growing by the day, you do realize that?" Valkyrie paused, then wrinkeled her nose,"Is everyone we meet going to be like that?" Skulduggery frowned,"I hadnt thought of it that way. You should probrably take away my gun." Now it was Valkyries turn to laugh. They got into the black car and started to drive. Valkyrie buckeled her seatbelt,"Where are we going?"
"To see Cain Brok."
"How do you know where he is?"
"Reputation. Im afraid he makes Blaine look like a perfect gentlemen." He said bitterly.
Valkyrie peered at him,"Reputation?" He shook his head,"Youll see."
Ten minutes later they pulled up into the parking lot of a rusty pub. Valkyrie stared at Skulduggery, "Your kidding me." Skulduggery walked into the pub and Valkyrie followed. There were a small group of people to the side, and another group of people scattered around the bar. He gave Skulduggery a glance, then stared at Valkyrie. Skulduggery walked over towards him, and Valkyrie muttered to herself,"Oh bloody hell..." She followed, stopping next to her. The drunken man looked about 6 years older then Valkyrie, in his early twenties. He looked at Valkyrie and grinned,"He-lloooo sweet heart. Want a drink?" She muttered to Skulduggery,"Hes drunk, whats the point talking to him." Skulduggery shook his head,"Thats the reputation. He could drink through the whole bar, and still act sober, if he wanted." Valkyrie shrugged and looked up to see Cain finishing the last of his drink, and turning towards Valkyrie. He staggered over and put a hand on her shoulder. Before she could react, Skulduggery had his gun aimed towards him. Valkyrie froze, giving Skulduggery a clear shot, if needed. "Get your hands off my partner, or I will shoot them off." He eyed Skulduggery and reluctantly pulled his hand down agian. Skulduggery put the gun back down and Valkyrie spoke,"OK then, off that happy note, did your brother just get turned by a Vampire?" The man paused for a beat then pounced on Valkyrie. Valkyrie pulled her knee up and hit his stomach. He backed up and doubled over, he straightened up and dived her her but she flipped and kicked his face, hard. She landed on the floor, and grabbed Cains shirt and twisted her hip into him. He fell onto the floor. He sat up, and snarled at Valkyrie. Skulduggery looked at her,"Nice flip." She smiled. He bared his teeth at Valkyrie,"Howd you know about my brother?" Skulduggery took over,"We heard a rumour. Do you know where he is." Cain glared at Skulduggery. "Hell, I do Skeleton. You and your little partner here can go up in flames, for the good itll do ya'." He paused, and his eyes raked over Valkyrie. He smiled visciously,"You know what, fine. Hes at my house. You know where that at?" Skulduggery nodded. They left and Valkyrie felt a suspiscious feeling nag at her brain. She shook it off. Skulduggery went in the opposite direction of the car and Valkyrie stared,"Were going to walk?" Skulduggery nodded, "Its about 30 feet away", and he pointed to a huge house on the side of the road. She nodded,"Oh. OK then."

Caelan watched from the shadows as Valkyrie walked out, her skin bright red, with Skulduggery. He saw Valkyrie look at Skulduggery, and they talked for a while. Caelan watched Valkyries hair whip around her head, her dark eyes shimmering. Caelan thought she was getting more gorgeous. He thought about Valkyrie until he heard a noise and whipped around. He saw Kenspeckle standing there, looking angry.
"Oh im sorry, please, continue your stalking by all means." Kenspeckle said.
Caelan growled. "What do you want?" Kenspeckle eyed him,"You took my potions. You may keep half, and the notes, but I need some now." Caelan nodded, "Ill be back." Kenspeckle watched as Caelan left, and shuddered. He waddeled back into his office. He sat, thinking of Clarabelle, and saw the phone. He grabbed it, and dialed a familiar number. It rang two times, then answered.
A voice answered, sounding drained and sad,"Hullo?" Kenspeckle cleared his throat,"Clarabelle? I think you should come back." The othe side was silent for so long, Kenspeckle feared she hung up. Then she replied,"K-K-Kenspeckle?" Her voice sounded frightened and nervous and unbeliving. Kenspeckle answered,"Please, come back and we can explain." Then the other side exploded,"IS THIS SOME KIND OF JOKE?" And she kept screaming until she yelled,"Goodbye!"
But before she hung up, Kenspeckle heard a sob.

Valkyrie walked out of the Hibernian. She looked at the, as promised, black car with a nice sleek body parked in front of them. She smiled,"Acceptable." Skulduggery scoweled,"Your damn right it is, cost me half my skeleton, that." Valkyrie smiled,"Dont be ridiculous, I still see it." She opened the car door, and sat in the leather seat, pulling her seatbelt over her chest.
"So where are we going?", Valkyrie asked. Skulduggery looked at her, "To the Sanctuary." Valkyrie groaned. "What?" Skulduggery asked. "Oh nothing, its just that everytime we go there something bad happens." Skulduggery shook his head,"Stop being so pessimisstic. We just need to ask someone something." Valkyrie eyed him,"Who?" Skulduggery cleared his throat,"Youll see." Valkyrie sighed,"Im not going to like this..."
Skulduggery shook his head,"You never do." They pulled into the Sanctuary, parking farther away just to be safe. Valkyrie looked over to the side of the road, staring at a spot she thought she saw something. Skulduggery looked at her,"Something the matter?" Valkyrie shook her head and tore her gaze away,"No. Nothing." Skulduggery nodded and held the door open for her, and she walked in. The icy air shot at her senses and she shivered,"Why is it so cold?!" Skulduggery shrugged,"Is it?" They walked through the hallway and up to a handsome boy in a dark teal suit, leaning agianst the cold wall. His eyes raked through Skulduggery, then sized Valkyrie from her toes to her head, and raised an eyebrow. They neared, and he grinned,"Hello, lovely." Valkyrie raised a cold eyebrow. Skulduggery cleared his throat,"Sorry, but your not my type." Valkyrie tried to conceal her grin. "Anyway, we need to get in." The boy rolled his eyes ,"Dont look at me. Im just trying to get away from him." Skulduggery cocked his head,"Who?" The boy scoweled,"Dont know his name, dont want to. Came storming in earlier, ranting about some Vampire I think." Valkyrie jumped in,"Did you get a name?" The boy grinned cockily,"'Fraid not, darling. But could I get yours?" Valkyrie smiled like a parent agreeing with a two year old. "Valkyrie." He rolled the name off his tounge,"Valkyrie. Hm. I like." He grinned agian. Valkyrie nodded,"Because your opinion mean so much to me, that warms my heart."
Skulduggery spoke,"Look, boy." The boy inturupted him,"Blaine Skar." Skulduggery nodded,"Blaine, do you know how we get in there?" The boy raised an eyebrow,"The door?" Skulduggery turned, to see a door handle appear out of the wall straight ahead. He strolled over,"Oh." They walked through, Blaine joining them. Valkyrie raised an eyebrow,"I thought you were trying to get out of here?" The boy winked,"Yes, but now I have entertainment. Anyways I cant leave." Skulduggery spoke without turning his head,"Why?" The boy scoweled,"Not allowed." Skulduggery muttered sarcastically,"That explains it." Blaine laughed. They turned a corner and saw Ghastly Bespoke talking to Erskine Ravel. Ghastyly, looking tired, his scars illuminated in the bright light. Erskine, looking handsome, with narrowed dark eyes and matching hair. Ghastly looked up as they neared, and smiled exhaustedly,"Hello." Erskine shook hands with Skulduggery, and smiled warmly at Valkyrie. Valkyrie, who liked him very much, smiled back just as warmly. Then Erskines eyes slid over to Blaine, who was loftily sizing Valkyrie agian. Erskine scoweled,"Blaine, leave that girl alone." Ghastly glanced over, and smiled at Valkyrie, who felt uncomfortable, feeling Blaines eyes on her. She wrinkled her nose in return, and he turned back to Skulduggery. Blaine grinned jauntily,"Keeping myself from becoming to bored, thats all." Erskine smiled apoligetically at her,"Sorry Valkyrie. I have the pleasure of taking care of Blaine here, for the month." Valkyrie frowned,"Why?" Blaine scoweled and leaned agianst the wall, arms crossed over his chest. Erskine continued,"Blaine got in a little trouble for making some mayhem with a group of mortals. Instead of a year in a cell, a month with me, because were sort of full." Valkyrie nodded. Skulduggery spoke,"While the life of an irritating boy is so facsinating, i need to ask Ghastly something." Erskine frowned, "To important for the likes of me?" Skulduggery shook his head,"Itd be better if you come to. We should talk somewhere more private. The Elders room?" Erskine eyed Valkyrie,"Vallkyrie would have to stay outside. Its not our choice, but you have to." Skulduggery looked at her,"Ill tell you everything afterwards?" Valkyrie nodded, then wrinkled her nose at the idea of staying alone with Blaine. Skulduggery frowned, not seeming to like the idea to much either. "Lets go," Ghastly said. And they walked into a room with a black door. Valkyrie leaned agianst the wall, hands wrapped around her newly fixed stomach. Blaine leaned next to her, sideways, so he faced her. "Well, theyll probrably be gone for a while..." He winked, and went to put a hand on her waist. She clicked her fingers and burnt that hand, and he yelped. She smiled and winked right back, "Try that agian, and it wont be your hand ill burn."

"Well, theyll probrably be gone for a while..." He winked, and went to put a hand on her waist. She clicked her fingers and burnt that hand, and he yelped. She smiled and winked right back, "Try that agian, and it wont be your hand ill burn."
